David L. Tumlinson, IV is a 1992 graduate of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Minor in Public Justice and his Master’s from Sam Houston State University in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management. Upon graduation in 1992, he entered a career in Education until his move to the juvenile justice system in 2001. He began as an Underage Drinking Prevention Officer through the Weed and Seed Program until he became a Field/Court Officer in 2002. He was then promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Detention in 2003 where he remained until promotion to Facility Administrator of Detention Services in 2005. In May of 2010, he was promoted to Deputy Director over Facilities to include the Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Detention Center and the Amador R. Rodriguez Juvenile Boot Camp and Educational Center. He also oversees the Southern Cameron County Probation Office, maintenance and training. He is an active member in his community where he served as the President of several agencies including Leadership Brownsville, Moody Clinic and the United Way of Southern Cameron County. David is also an adjunct professor teaching juvenile justice at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and Sam Houston State University. He is married to Mariana Tumlinson and they have a daughter, Ashley Janene.
